Synopsis
Welcome to Traitor’s Den. I hope you like it here, because there’s no leaving the small western town that’s more theme park than authentic. Once you walk through the portal, you’re stuck as a boot heel in a half foot of mud.
I’ve never seen the outside world and I don’t care. The cannon-toting, trigger-happy residents here are like family, even if most of them are a few spoons short of a full set. Eventually, everyone grows on you, kinda like nail fungus. But the booze flows freely, and Tiger keeps me company. He’s as much a prisoner as I am.
I don’t figure there’s much point in wanting what you can never have. I’ll eventually accept one of my boyfriend’s marriage proposals and then keep policing the one-way town while I pop out the babies he wants. I was born knowing how to make chicken salad out of chicken shit.
At least I won’t be bored. Denners aren’t fans of following the rules, and the longer they’re in town, the worse they behave, thanks to the spell that keeps us all trapped here.
Just when I think I’ve made my peace with my lot, the portal pops open and two men shoot through, throwing punches before their feet even finish landing in my town. When they finally look at me, all I see is problems. Big, ginormous, entirely-too-handsome problems. And that’s before I even take into account the little “surprise” they brought through with them.
No one’s ever looked at me the way they do.
They aren’t the kind of men who back down after claiming something.
Or someone…
Did I say I had my life in Traitor’s Den all figured out? Hell, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Review
It’s hard for a cowgirl Sherriff in the small town of Traitor’s Den to keep the peace. Especially when you’re the only one without powers in a world full of shifters, magical creatures and mages. Even more so when no one can leave the town due to its unique feature of only being accessible through a magical portal.
But Loretta does her best, with her Tiger shifter partner and her sunny outlook on life. That is until the portal throws through two very attractive trouble-makers who seem set to turn the town- and Loretta on her head.
Not to mention the dragon egg.
Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit. The second I started reading this here book, I came over all southern and it took longer to get that accent outta my head than I’d like.
This book was more fun than a county fair and had me giggling fit to bust.
Loretta was my kind of gal with sex and sass all wrapped up in cute little denim shorts. And as for the two men- well! Despite being slicker’n owl shit, they were so pretty they’d win the Miss Rose Bowl parade.
The bed scene had my cheeks blushing so hard you could call aircraft down to land.
The fact that one of them was incubating his little dragon egg in his trousers was delightfully strange and yet oddly endearing.
I was just plum tickled by the world-building here. There was so much going on and yet it all fit together beautifully; from the reasoning behind the stereotypical ‘Western Theme park’ speak, to the fact that they were all stuck in the one town, it was truly unusual and yet so much fun.
My only problem was that it ended too soon and the next book isn’t out until May 16th.
Do I have it preordered? Why you bet your sweet Aunt Fanny I have!
